NAA teams with LifeLock to give alums the only service that has actually stopped ID theft

(Chandler, AZ, August 29, 2006) – The University of Nebraska Alumni Association (NAA) today announced it has selected LifeLock as the Identity Theft Protection partner for its more than 185,000 alumni throughout the U.S.  The NAA joins the University of Oklahoma Alumni Association as the first two universities to offer graduates the LifeLock Preventative ID Theft Solution. LifeLock is the nation’s first preventative service that focuses on stopping the crime before it happens, and completely backs its program with a $1 million guarantee.

Nebraska Alumni executive director Ed Paquette said, “Identity theft is a growing concern for our alumni of all ages.  We wanted to be sure we selected a product that helps stop this crime before it happens.  Our alumni have worked hard for what they have achieved and need the opportunity to protect themselves.”

Labeled “The fastest growing crime in America”, it was predicted that in the United States alone, 15 million people (or 1 in 20) will have their identity compromised in 2006 — that's more than a 350 percent increase from a year ago. There have been 29 reported breaches from university related organizations so far this year and 115 since February 2005.

“We welcome the opportunity to partner with the University of Nebraska Alumni Association,” said LifeLock CEO Todd Davis. “With an outstanding tradition of its own, the NAA is well known for its leadership, passion for excellence and strength in numbers. Identity Theft will only stop when personal information is made useless to anyone but the rightful owner. This partnership will give alumni of the University of Nebraska and their families the chance to take back control and never worry about the crime again.”

LifeLock does the prevention work by maintaining active fraud alerts with the three major credit bureaus, as well as ChexSystems. The LifeLock system makes personal information useless to everyone but the rightful owner. Every time someone attempts to open credit, change an address or make changes to bank accounts, LifeLock is there to ensure the right person is making the request.

Also unique to other products on the market, LifeLock removes a member’s name from solicitation lists and junk mail, eliminating a primary target of ID thieves – the pre-approved credit offer. Best of all, the LifeLock system is backed by a $1 million guarantee to completely fix any problems if a client was ever compromised.

“There is no other service that will provide the complete protection we do,” added Davis. “We understand that most people do not worry about identity theft until they are required too. However, by then it is too late and the damage is done. With our service protecting them, alumni, family  and friends of the University of Nebraska Alumni Association can now focus on other things and not wonder when something bad may happen.”

Based in Chandler, Arizona, LifeLock is the leading identity theft protection company, answering the call with special programs for children under 16, U.S. Veterans, and victims of Hurricane Katrina and Rita. For more information on LifeLock, go to www.lifelock.com.
