eRecon™
Using industry-leading technology our eRecon™ service searches thousands of known criminal Web sites for the illegal selling or trading of your personal information (including your Social Security number and credit card number, if provided). When we find a piece of your identity on one of these black market sites, we alert you and help you take steps to resolve the problem.
TrueAddress™
By submitting a change of address request, identity thieves can divert your mail to steal your personal and financial information. TrueAddress™ is designed to proactively detect any new address information in address databases nationwide. Once detected, we notify you and if the address change is fraudulent, we work with you to help avoid further damage and restore accurate address information.
WalletLock™
A lost or stolen wallet can mean hours of contacting police, banks and government agencies before an identity thief uses your information to their advantage. As a LifeLock member, if your wallet goes missing, just give us a call - anytime, anywhere - and a WalletLock™ specialist will help cancel and replace the lost contents of your wallet, including your credit/debit cards, driver's license, social security card, insurance cards, checkbook - even travelers checks. (Pictures, cash, and other monies are excluded. Member is responsible for all applicable fees charged by document issuing companies to replace lost or stolen documents.)
Reduce Pre-approved Credit Offers
Not only are pre-approved offers annoying, they also present an easy opportunity for thieves. That’s why we request your name be removed from pre-approved credit card offer mailing lists. This reduces the possibility of someone rifling through your mail and stealing financial information to open credit using your name.
24-Hour Member Service
It’s good to know that no matter where you are or what time it is, LifeLock will be there. LifeLock provides anytime online access to our myLifeLock member portal and direct 24/7 access to our Member Service Representatives.
*Restrictions apply (see Terms and Conditions). Due to New York State law restrictions, the LifeLock® $1 Million Total Service Guarantee cannot be offered to the residents of New York.
How It Works: LifeLock’s proactive identity theft protection works through three distinct layers of elite services for prevention, detection and recovery. Prevention:
The proactive LifeLock Identity Alert™ system provides broader identity coverage, greater control and early notification of both credit and non-credit related identity threats. Any time this advanced detection system identifies an application for credit or services using any piece of your identity information, LifeLock will alert you of the application by e-mail, postal mail, and/or phone. If the application is fraudulent, the LifeLock remediation team will take action to help protect your good name.
We also reduce your junk mail by requesting your name be removed from pre-approved credit card offer mailing lists. This helps reduce the risk of someone rifling through your mail and stealing financial information to open credit using your name.
Detection:
LifeLock® service includes eRecon™ and TrueAddress™ services, and requests your free annual credit reports. eRecon™ searches over 10,000 sites for the illegal selling or trading of your personal information. If such activity is detected, we alert you and help you take steps to resolve the problem. TrueAddress™ is designed to proactively detect any new address information in address databases nationwide. If a detected address change is fraudulent, we work with you to help avoid further damage, and restore accurate address information. In addition, we provide the convenience of ordering your free annual credit reports from the three major credit-reporting agencies on your behalf.
Remediation:
As a LifeLock member, if you become a victim of identity theft because of a failure in our service, we’ll help fix it at our expense, up to $1,000,000. We not only assign a dedicated specialist to help you, but we will spend up to one million on lawyers, investigators, accountants, case managers – whatever it takes to help protect your good name. FAQ:
How does LifeLock secure my personal information?
We know you have questions about how, internally, we keep your information safe. After all, you’re giving us your Social Security number.
LifeLock uses strict physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard the confidentiality and security of the Personal Information you provide to us. LifeLock has achieved certification under the stringent ISO 27001 standards for data and operational security, is certified Level 1 compliant under the Payment Card Industry’s Data Security Standards, is tested daily by McAfee, and is a member of TRUSTe. We conduct background checks on all of our employees, including regular random drug testing. All of our facilities are built with the latest biometric security access as well as state-of-the-art surveillance and alarm systems. All data is stored offsite in a secure data center. No computers anywhere outside of secure data centers have our members’ critical information on them.
How can LifeLock protect my children?
Children make ideal targets for identity thieves. Children will usually not have any credit records and, because they will not be establishing their own credit for many years, any instance of credit-related identity theft can go undetected for quite some time. Thieves can obtain personal information in many places including doctor’s offices, schools, and by hacking into online profiles. Armed with the necessary information, thieves can fraudulently open bank, credit card and utility accounts, falsely obtain a job and then evade paying taxes using a child’s stolen identity. Dealing with child identity theft after it happens can be extremely difficult. Often times laws in many states are insufficient to handle the crime’s complexity. Consequences for children can be real and damaging, such as difficulty getting into college and getting school loans, inability to apply for a driver’s license, receiving collections notices and having an arrest warrant out in the child’s name. So it pays to take steps to help protect your children now
- Our LifeLock Identity Alert™ system provides early notification by e-mail, postal mail, and/or phone whenever we detect your child’s personal information being used to apply for credit or services.
- We will request your child’s free annual credit report from the major credit reporting agencies on an annual basis.*
- Once a year, we will send you a form for you to request a copy of the child’s Earnings Report from the Social Security Administration. You will then be responsible for submitting this request to the Social Security Administration.**
- With WalletLock™, we will help cancel or replace cards if the child’s wallet is ever lost or stolen.
Help protect yourself and your family today.
*Extra precaution with your child’s personal information – We request that any credit reports sent out to your child contain a partially masked SSN, so that we continue to keep your sensitive personal information secure.
**Simplifying your role – we cannot request the SSA for your child’s Earning Report because it involves asking for more information on your child to which only you have access.
How is LifeLock different from a credit monitoring system?
Credit monitoring is a service, often provided by the credit reporting agencies themselves, that monitors a consumer's credit report for activity and alerts you to changes in exchange for a fee. Some people compare us to credit monitoring services, like those provided by the credit bureaus. But we're not credit monitoring; credit monitoring focuses exclusively on after-the-fact reporting. In fact, we like to think of ourselves as the next generation. Which would you rather have, a lock on your door helping to keep the thieves out or an alarm telling you after the thief has ripped you off?
We think most people would prefer to keep the thief out in the first place. And that's what we aim to do.
Credit monitoring services will often alert you if there has been a change on your credit report, within 24 to 72 hours. It is then your responsibility to check the information for accuracy. Services like these do not actually prevent the crime of identity theft, nor will it help fix the problem. What happens if your identity is stolen when you have credit monitoring? Does the credit monitoring service hire and pay for professionals to do the work to help you resolve it? No. According to Javlin Strategy & Research’s 2009 Identity Fraud Survey Report victims spent an average of 30 hours repairing the damage done by an identity thief. If your identity is stolen while you are a member of LifeLock, we're going to go out and hire the right professionals to work for you to get your good name back.
You can read all the details of our $1 Million Total Service Guarantee in the Terms & Conditions Section of our Web site. And don't forget that we also request your annual free credit reports and provide our eReconTM and WalletLock™ services too.

What happens when I apply for credit?
The creditor who is issuing the line of credit will notice a fraud alert has been placed on your account. They then have an obligation to call you or take other extra steps to verify your identity. They will ask you a series of questions to validate it is you making the request. Once your identity is verified, they can process your request. Please note that LifeLock does not influence the credit decision in any way. LifeLock also does not set fraud alerts on your behalf. It is your responsibility to set your own fraud alerts and renew them every 90 days.
However, the LifeLock Identity AlertTM system provides you broader identity coverage, greater control and early notification by e-mail, postal mail, and/or phone whenever we detect your personal information being used to apply for many forms of credit cards, wireless services, retail credit, utilities, check orders/reorders, mortgage loans, auto loans and non-credit related payday loans.
Can I get my credit score through LifeLock?
While we do request your free annual credit reports, your credit score is not included. However, LifeLock is looking to add this to our list of services in the near future.
Does LifeLock monitor my credit card transactions?
LifeLock does not monitor your credit card transactions. However, your credit card accounts would still be covered by our $1 Million Total Service Guarantee should your information be used fraudulently.
We do suggest that you write down all of the contact information for the cards that you carry in your wallet and keep them in a secure place. Then, if ever your wallet is stolen, just give us a call. With our free WalletLockTM service, we can help you contact the document issuing companies to cancel your stolen cards and reissue new ones.
My information is not correct on my credit report. Can you fix it for me?
LifeLock cannot change any of your information with the credit bureaus. If you find a discrepancy or need to update information, contact the credit bureau using the instructions found in your credit report.
I have been a victim of identity theft. Can you help me?
Our $1 Million Total Service Guarantee only covers existing members who become victims of identity theft through some failure in our services. But even though you are not covered by our guarantee until you are a member, we will help you hire people that will help rectify the current situation you're in.
